The First Sunday in Lent

This MorningThis WeekAnnual MeetingLent 2024Get Involved

This morning we welcome The Rev. Simon Asquith, who is celebrating and preaching while
Bishop Mark is making his Pastoral Visitation to All Saints’ Waterloo.

Welcome to St. Paul’s Within the Walls, the multi-cultural, multi-lingual Episcopal church in the heart of Rome. The main focus of our outreach ministry is the Joel Nafuma Refugee Center (JNRC), offering services to refugees and asylum seekers. Whether you are here for the first time, are returning visitors or regular members of the congregation, we invite you to participate as fully as possible in our worship and ministries.

For our younger members and visitors, there is a Children’s Corner with toys, books and coloring sheets near the wooden pulpit. Feel free to make use of it!

We would love the chance to talk to each one of you, so please join us in the garden for coffee before and after the Eucharist this morning. And if you are looking for somewhere to have lunch, why not join us at the Quirinale Hotel? (€15 for a first course, water and coffee, full menu also available).

Please sign our digital Visitor’s Card and leave comments or questions, or subscribe to our weekly newsletter so you don’t miss out on what’s going on.

Didn’t pick up a bulletin? Not to worry – you can view it online here!

Lent 2024

Lenten Reflections
Tuesdays in Lent – 20, 27 Feb | 5, 12 and 19 March, 12.00
Anglican Centre in Rome (P.za del Collegio Romano 2)
This Lent, drawing from the Patristic and Monastic traditions, Rev. Allison Beaty and Rev. Johnathan Denson propose we take the time to recognize that we are living – collectively and individually – a wilderness experience; one in which our very identities are at satke. However, the wilderness, like Lent itself, has always been a sacred place, where, for centuries, those who are seeking have not only encountered God but discovered a truer version of themselves as well.

Pray as you can, not as you can’t.
Wednesdays in Lent – 21, 28 Feb; 6, 13, 20 March, 19.30-21.00 CET  Zoom link
Ali Gray, Canon for Spiritual Development for the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe, is hosting 5 weekly sessions on zoom to help deepen our prayer lives, using centering prayer and journaling, the Examen, Lectio Divina, imaginative prayer and praying with art and poetry. Sessions last 90 minutes and will include time for sharing experiences, and we finish with compline. All are welcome, just turn up!

Rice Bowl 2024
This year the Lenten Rice Bowl Appeal organized by the Churches Together in Rome will support the Augusta Victoria Hospital in East Jerusalem. Located on the Mount of Olives, the hospital specializes in comprehensive cancer & diabetes care, kidney care & dialysis, skilled nursing, and long-term care. Operated by the Lutheran World Federation, it was established in 1950 as a major medical facility to care for Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza. Churches Together in Rome invites you to give generously to the 2024 Rice Bowl Project. Offerings can be made in a clearly marked envelope and placed in the Offerings plate or by giving directly to the hospital – please visit their website at https://avh.org.

On Sundays
Even if you’re only here for a short time, we want your help! If you can help us out in preparing the Altar, acting as Greeter or Acolyte, or reading the lessons and prayers, please speak to Andrea or call the Parish Office. The schedule is organized week by week via WhatsApp on the basis of availability. Training is given! Greatest current need: Greeters and Acolytes.

Joel Nafuma Refugee Center
If you are interested in volunteering your time teaching on a regular basis, helping with the distribution of clothing and toiletries, or if you have professional skills you would like to offer, please speak to Mansur Nadri or send an email to admin@jnrc.it. The JNRC accepts donations of second-hand clothing and shoes (clean and in good condition, please), and underwear or socks only if new. We can also take some children’s clothing and toys.
