The Convocation of American Churches in Europe is established by the Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America (ECUSA). For well over a century these congregations have been ministering to English-speaking people in Europe. Many Americans move to Europe for business, military, or academic reasons and stay for a few months or a few years. Others have found in Europe a second or permanent home. However long their stays have been, hundreds of thousands of English-speaking people have found encouragement and companionship through sharing in the life of the Episcopal Church.

Recently, immigrants from Latin America, refugees from many troubled parts of the world, and local nationals have also begun finding a home in our congregations. As a result the Convocation is now a multinational, multilingual and multicultural fellowship within the "New Europe."

The Convocation is organised much like any other Diocese in the Episcopal Church. The Bishop in Charge is Suffragan to the Presiding Bishop and resides in Paris. The Council of Advice functions like a Diocesan Standing Committee. The Convocation meets annually in Convention with clergy and lay representatives from the individual congregations in order to adopt its own budget and to take other steps as needed for the proclamation of the Gospel in a rapidly changing world.
